Safari Day 3 – Serengeti Part 2

Today, we got an early start (7:00 AM) in order to arrive to the lodge earlier than yesterday. Iddy, our guide, had cleaned the Land Cruiser, which I have baptized Rosa Maria in honor to my mom. Being an animal lover, she would have loved going on a safari, and I can feel her essence with me. This morning, Rosa Maria looked beautiful!

Our day included more sightings of magnificent creatures, breathtaking landscape, and pouring rain for a period of time. The landscape was magnificent in the morning as well as in the afternoon. With the gorgeous clouds overhead, we were able to capture some moments which we want to revisit over and over again. Here are a few of our favorites.

The sun trying to make space for itself in the expansive sky.
The road less traveled.
A solitary giraffe starting the day.

Spotting animals in the wild is definitely a challenge. Zebras and giraffes are easy to find as they stand out from their surroundings. African buffalos and wildebeests are also easier to see as they are dark in color and large in size. However, others are much more difficult because their hide is camouflaged in the Serengeti. Therefore, you have to have keen vision to find them.

There were many zebras out today. We spotted herds of them in different parts throughout the park.
There were many African buffalos out there today as well.
This little one was part of a pride of female lions. They were out hunting today but she was napping near her momma. Lions are much harder to spot quickly.
The impalas and gazelles are easy to confuse because their coloring is so similar. One way to distinguish them is to look at them from behind. The impalas have the McDonald’s arches on their bottom. 😃
Iddy explained that hyenas eat everything including bones. This creates excess acid in their tummies and as a result, they get tummy aches. To help alleviate their discomfort, they lie in cold water which is what this one is doing.

We also witnessed yet again how the safari guides take care of each other. Multiple times, Iddy stopped and asked other drivers if they had seen a leopard. I had told him I was putting it out into the universe that today was our leopard day. He worked really hard to find one and guess what? He did!!! Another guide told him where we could see a female leopard, and he rushed over to see it along with at least 15 other vehicles. It was an amazing sight.

Apparently, her kiddos were in the bushes. I remember looking like her, when our kids were little, by the end of the day.

Towards the end of our day of sightings, we were able to get out of the Land Cruiser and take some pictures of us on the land. Iddy took some pictures, and we took some selfies with him. That was fun!

Iddy took this one.
Iddy is the best!
Obviously, Iddy is the cool one of us three😂😂😂

Tomorrow, we’re off to Ngorongoro Crater.

Thank you for sharing your adventures. It looks amazing. I really enjoyed the art sculptures and the market. I imagine that going to an market (not a supermarket), you can learn a lot of a country’s culture. Glad you two estan gozando su viaje a Africa.

    1. You are so right mija! The market reminded so much of PR when I was younger and visited markets with my grandmother. It has been an amazing experience for us both. 😘💜
