‘Twas the night before the Camino and all through the Maison Simonenia, not a peregrino was stirring not even a little bit. We are all ready to begin our adventure tomorrow.
Upon our arrival to our dwelling yesterday, Maison Simonenia, we were given our pilgrim passport. This passport needs to be stamped at least twice each day to show that we have walked the distance we are claiming in Santiago de Compostela. As a pilgrim, you must walk at least 100KM of the Camino to get your official credential. Therefore, it is a very important document which you can not lose.
This morning we visited the pilgrim office here in St. Jean Pied de Port and got our first stamp. Our hearts filled as we realized this is really the beginning! Our pilgrim consultant Nathalia, gave us information on the best route to take to Roncesvalles, which would be the Napoleon route rather than the Valcarlos route that is on a winding road with no shoulder. We also received our white seashell which identified us as pilgrims.

Tonight, we’ll check we have what we need for our walk in our packs. We’re starting early in the morning as it is the most difficult day with lots of climbing. Next time we communicate with you all will be from Spain. Aurevoir!
